SACRED BELOVED
lineage, medicine, DRUM weaving
This offering is for those who are called to make their medicine drum. We will be using deer hide and maple rounds, and weaving with an Apache weave. We slow down and listen to the heartbeat of the earth, we allow our hands to weave. Most drum weavers I work with are interested in working with their personal ancestral healing, and are, in some way, embracing the art and path of healing in their personal or community practice.
Friday evening we begin. We will meet at my home on the Willamette river, next to Elk Rock Island. This land is abundant and rich, it will hold us and carry us through this sweet gateway. The first evening we speak of our ancestors, we set intentions and create the circle. I hold space for everyone's hearts to be fully present and for each of you to fully sit with your intention, and to open to what else may be wanting to come through.
Saturday we meet in the morning hours for tea ceremony, create an offering for the land, let the maple rounds and the hides choose us, and we paint and prepare the rounds. This is a spacious day, where we soften in and embody spirit of deer medicine. We close the day by dipping the hides in the river so they are ready for weaving in the morning.
Sunday we weave. This is a fun process and takes time to finish as we wrap the handle many times in a pattern that is unique to each hide pattern and each weaver. I will be providing some simple and delicious food, and serving cacao during the weave. As the drums are all finished up, I will start a fire we'll head out to seal each drum with the fire's heat, to awaken each drum, and the best part...to witness each others' first drum sounds.
Next class dates are coming soon, you can be sure to be informed by subscribing to my newsletter - which is where classes and dates are announced.
Class size is limited to 10 participants and I offer this one-two times per year. I am tentatively planning another near the fall equinox.
